A Guide to Affordable Live-in Care and Support Services
How much does live in care cost?
The cost of live-in care and home care services can vary depending on a number of factors, including:
-
The level of care needed
-
The location of the home
-
The experience of the caregiver or agency

How Can You Pay for Care?
Firstly, we must highlight that everyone’s situation is different — and so are the ways people pay for care.
Direct Payments (Council-Funded, But You Stay in Control)
Council-Arranged Care.
Self-Funded Care (Paying Privately)
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)
Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
We know this can feel confusing — we’re happy to talk you through it. Just give us a call or drop us a message and we’ll help you explore the best route for your situation.

Maximising Value and Affordability in Live-in Care and Home Care Services
Direct Payments (Council-Funded, But You Stay in Control)
If you qualify for funding from your local authority, you can choose to receive the money directly as a Direct Payment. This allows you (or your loved one) to:
-
Choose your own care provider (like Siete)
-
Design a personalised care package
-
Stay in control of how and when support is delivered
Many families don’t realise they’re eligible — speak to your local council for a care needs assessment.
Council-Arranged Care
The local authority may assess your needs and manage your care directly, using their own care providers. While this removes the admin, it usually means:
-
Less flexibility in visit times
-
Limited choice over who provides care
Some families find this a good option short-term, before switching to Direct Payments for more personalised support.
Self-Funded Care (Paying Privately)
If you're not eligible for council funding — or want to top up what’s provided — you can pay for your care privately. This gives you full flexibility, including:
-
Choosing the exact level of support you want
-
Starting care without waiting for a council assessment
-
Using it alongside NHS or council-funded services
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)
In some cases, the NHS may cover full care costs for people with ongoing complex health needs. This is called Continuing Healthcare (CHC) and is:
-
Assessed by your local NHS team
-
Not means-tested
-
Provided free of charge if you're eligible
CHC can be used in your own home or a care home.
Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
These are government benefits (not means-tested) designed to help people who need support due to illness, disability, or old age. You can:
-
Use them alongside other care funding
-
Spend the money how you choose (e.g. on a helper or home adaptations)
